Planes, Automobiles....and the Family Vacation As I wrote in Part 1 of this article, we took our first family vacation in Hilton Head Island, SC. With the exception of a train, we utilized all other modes of transportation. When planning a trip, whether to Grandma's place a couple hours away, or to a different province, maybe to the USA or if you're really fortunate to an exotic locale in Europe, Asia or scores of other great destinations, keep one very important point in mind. You are travelling as a family and the pint-sized member is in charge! Do not for a moment delude yourself and think that this is your trip. You are the, caretaker, cook, laundress, and bank. Ok, it's not really that bad if you put some thought into planning your family holiday.

The following took place a few months back and since then I have contemplated about sharing it here. Afterall, MojoDaddy and I created this site to highlight the good and positive aspects of life with kids. I reconsidered and what follows is solely my account of what happened on that day. Another milestone reached.... MoJo's first pair of real shoes. I did the research, visited every website on the market, and spent hours comparing features, benefits, testimonials and even exchanging informational emails with different manufacturers. Therefore I knew what I wanted and I knew where to go, Kiddie Kobbler. After all, my first shoes were purchased there, as were scores for all of my little cousins. Doing a quick Google search, I found that the nearest location to me was at Oakville Place and so off I went with a happy-as-ever Mojo in tow. I have lived in Canada for 28 years and had never been to this mall, so I was really looking forward to a fun relaxing shopping afternoon. I found the store quite easily and in I went - what follows is my side of the events that transpired:

What to Pack On many vacations past, I packed almost every item in my wardrobe on the off chance that I would actually wear 20 outfits in six days. In addition to clothing there were the must have hair and make-up kits, and shoes for each ensemble which required a separate suitcase all their own. How things have changed….the romantic vacations for two have become the clichéd family vacations of three.

MojoMommy and I live in suburban Toronto where Mojo's daycare also resides. For work, we both commute downtown and are largely at the mercy of transit schedules. There have been occasions when a train is late, and with winter coming, will likely be more common. Recently, we had a family emergency where we were stuck in a hospital late into the evening. Thankfully, everyone is fine and it was largely just an inconvenience. However; we had to think and act quickly with alternate plans to have Mojo picked up from daycare, fed, bathed and put to sleep. In our case, Mojo's grandparents live nearby and are accustomed to having him at their place. So, aside from a lack of PJ's to sleep in (just slept in a onesy and a t-shirt), Mojo had a mostly normal night.

I recently purchased a pair of Pediped shoes for my son who is 15 months. This particular style was advertised as being for indoor/outdoor use and recommended for first walkers. Overall I'm very happy with the shoe we purchased; I only wish my son had been able to wear it longer.
