These two words can cause any Über-organized parent to just fizzle. Not only is their little darling going to be irritable and cranky; little darling won't be welcome back at daycare until the bacteria is treated or the virus is gone. What is Pink eye anyways? Also known as Conjunctivitis it is the redness and swelling of the mucous membrane that lines the eyelid and the eye surface. There are two kinds of pink eye, bacterial and viral. Bacterial can be treated with antibiotics and improvement is often seen as early as 24hrs. Viral conjunctivitis on the other hand must run its course sometimes 7-10 days. Whether you're a stay-at-home mom or a jet-setting single Dad, you pretty much have to stop everything for a few moments and assess the situation.
Regardless of your child care situation you've got to assess how serious a case you have on your hands and what plans you need to put in place so the your little Mojo is properly quarantined and you are covered at work. In my case, Mojo's symptoms crept up quietly until one morning he looked almost hung over, glazed eyes and all. That of course resulted in me being told firmly but politely by Lisa that Mojo had to go home until he was better. I took MoJo to the pediatrician and was informed that he had viral pink eye. That translated to time off work for me and little Mojo as we weathered the storm of Mojo's first eye infection.
