I was notified today that a relative of a close friend has published her first children's book: Anything, by Marianne-Leigh Sanchez Ellazar (ISBN 1436337062).  View on Amazon.ca or on Amazon.com. I haven't obtained a copy as yet, but here's a brief description from the publisher:

"Anything follows the struggles of a young elephant trying to grow up fast. His name is Dwight and he has nothing but the love and nurturing he gets from his parents. Everyday, he learns and interacts with many new things and more importantly, he discovers that choices have to be made in order to move on. What will Dwight be when he grows up and will he be well prepared for his own future? Read the book to find out." - Xlibris Publications

Here it is mentioned in a blog: http://itsheavenly.blogspot.com/2008/08/anything.html

Obviously this is a very exciting time for her, so do have a look!

I read this book and was very disappointed. There doesn't appear to be an
objective critique of this book anywhere, so I felt compelled to do so.

It's

such an unworthwhile read.

There are **several** grammatical errors
throughout the whole book; something as simple as an apostrophe is used
incorrectly.

It is obvious that it either wasn't edited or the
"writer" (and I use the term *very* loosely) simply had no business
attempting to write a children's book in the first place.

The prose is
strained with a rhyming scheme that sounds amateurish and very awkward.

The
illustrations are dull and unoriginal.

I'm glad that I merely borrowed this
book from an acquaintance and didn't actually spend money on it myself. My 3
year old son, who loves books, w...
