MojoMommy and I live in suburban Toronto where Mojo's daycare also resides. For work, we both commute downtown and are largely at the mercy of transit schedules. There have been occasions when a train is late, and with winter coming, will likely be more common. Recently, we had a family emergency where we were stuck in a hospital late into the evening. Thankfully, everyone is fine and it was largely just an inconvenience. However; we had to think and act quickly with alternate plans to have Mojo picked up from daycare, fed, bathed and put to sleep. In our case, Mojo's grandparents live nearby and are accustomed to having him at their place. So, aside from a lack of PJ's to sleep in (just slept in a onesy and a t-shirt), Mojo had a mostly normal night.
Not everyone has family nearby, so here are some things to consider planning before you need to act: Someone to pick up your little Mojo
- Near enough to easily pick up from daycare
- Has a baby/infant car seat and knows how to use it
- Is known to your daycare worker(s). They won't release a child to just anyone.
- Is on your speed dial / Emergency contact card
Food
- Typical food for the age of your Mojo
- Knows of any allergies
- Has appropriate milk (2%, Homo, Skim, etc)
Clothing
- DIAPERS!!! Correct size, and enough to get through a night.
- PJ's
- Next day clothing
These are the basics assuming you're available again the next day. Of course, if it's an extended absence, you'll need to expand on this list. Better to prepare now, don't you think?
