I recently purchased a pair of Pediped shoes for my son who is 15 months. This particular style was advertised as being for indoor/outdoor use and recommended for first walkers. Overall I'm very happy with the shoe we purchased; I only wish my son had been able to wear it longer.
This brings me to the point of this article - Product Knowledge. It is the exception when we go to a store and we can find sales people who have good knowledge of what they're selling and can make suggestions on optimal use. As I mentioned above, when I went shopping for shoes I asked the sales girl to help me find a shoe for Mojo that would protect his feet as he waddled around the house and occasionally outside and provide him with some stability. Unknown to this young lady is I had done much research prior to this outing and so I had the answers to the questions which I posed to her. For example, I kept insisting on a very flexible shoe each time she presented me with firmly constructed sneakers with considerably harder soles. Then I asked her about fit and that received a vague response as did my general question of "What would you recommend?" The store had a descent inventory of brands and did specialize in children's footwear, but all of my questions were answered with the same two pair of shoes. How frustrating! Today, retailers are not spending enough time getting to know their products let alone their customers. Economically, times are tough so the shop owners hire individuals at minimum wage and provide only the very basics of training. And that's very unfortunate for the manufacturers. I think Pediped is a great first shoe and they have many styles from early walkers to 'regular' shoes for the average kid. I recently received a response from Pediped regarding a question I had about the lack of traction on the soles of their shoes and I was impressed to see how much research and innovation goes into their designs. They mentioned in this letter that their newest collections would feature more traction in the form of some rubberized embossing on the soles. So do take a moment and visit the Pediped website and get familiar with their product and then go get some for your little darling. I can't say enough about how great these shoes are for the smallest feet in our lives.
