It's a heart-wrenching choice to have to make, but eventually many of us will have to return to work and therefore, find competent care for our babies. For some of us, we realize that we love being a Mom but being a Stay-at-Home Mom (SAHM) is not our path. Others face the reality that financially both Mom and Dad have to work to keep the cheque book balanced. What to do? What are the options?
There are a few routes one can explore: - Family members or close friends
- Government child care facility
- Licened private day care facility
- Informal home care facility
Even before Mojo was born, MojoDaddy and I discussed our options for care once my maternity leave expired. It was important to us for Mojo to have interaction with other little kids since for the time being he was going to be an only child. With this in mind, we commenced our search and placed ourselves on every wait list we could find. I also asked around to see if there were any alternatives just in case one of the mammoth daycare centres could not accommodate our Mojo. This is when I met Lisa - wife, mother of two adorable boys and day care provider. Lisa is like a friendly tornado - just a bundle of positive, feel good energy filling every room as she enters. Most importantly, the kids love her!! And my Mojo just adores her. Don't let Lisa's bubbly personality fool you; she is organized, she is structured and she is just awesome with the kids at her home daycare A Busy Child's Home Daycare. Lisa has this gift where she just knows what each child needs. I think that is what I value most about Lisa's care; although she has a set menu, and activities for her group, she knows exactly what each of her children need individually. Mojo looks forward to his time there and though happy to see mommy and daddy at the end of the day, he'd probably prefer an extra hour of time with the blocks or maracas. In short, Lisa's home care offers a genuine extended family atmostphere for the kids. This is her home that she is sharing with us, so there are no institutional smells, or the glare of harsh lights. The food is yummy, and the activities are plentiful. Sometimes it's just best to keep things simple.
